William McKinley ate what?

Happy birthday to our 25th president, William McKinley!  Born today in 1843, president McKinley would be celebrating his 168th birthday if he hadn't been shot a couple of times by Leon Czolgosz in 1901.  But I'll save that topic for later, it being a day of celebration and everything...

My favorite birthday tradition is getting to pick a birthday meal so I figure it is only fitting, not to mention ridiculousy nerdy, to keep track of the presidents' birthdays and try and celebrate with their favorite food.  I did a little web research to see what the McKinley's would be serving for supper, prior to 1901, and apparently it was something called 'Boiled Fish à la McKinley.'  I have no idea what makes it 'à la McKinley,' but here is a recipe for boiled fish from 1884.  I am in complete agreeance with Mrs. Linoln's opinion of boiled fish so I'm going out for sushi.
